Instructions

Welcome to the event entry form for the OSALT Event Database. We hope it will become THE place for people interested in sustainability, food security, and agriculture to come first when looking for activities of interest. You can help make that happen by adding your events to this database, telling your supporters about this calendar, including a link to the calendar on your web site (www.osalt.org/events), and encouraging others to add their events to the database.

There is no charge for including your events in this database, although we would be happy to accept any donation you care to make. Your comments and suggestions, including how to make this calendar better, both for you and for your supporters, are encouraged. Send us an e-mail at events@osalt.org

Please use this form to submit an event to OSALT. After reviewing it for completeness and potential interest for visitors to our site, we will display it on our events page. We may contact you for more information if needed.

We recommend that you look at the calendar (the events database) before entering your event. Notice that you can search the events database for type of event, sponsor, and location.

Event Type is used as a search field. You might want to click on the down-pointing arrow to see the types already in use. You may enter a new event type by clicking on Add New Type, and it will appear on the Event Type List, but your event will probably be seen by more people if you use an existing event type.

Event Starts is used by the database to know where (in what order) to display your event. Event Ends date tells the database when to stop displaying your event. For a 1 day event these should be the same date.

Date and Time are shown at the left side of the event display. For consistency (and ease for the veiwers) please start with the day(s) of the week, the calendar date(s), then the time(s). See other events for examples.

Sponsor is used as a search field, and shown at the left side of the event display. Sponsor is the person or organization putting on the event. If the event has multiple sponsors, pick the most significant one to people looking for your event. E.g. if your event is being put on by OSALT with support from US Bank and Food Front, put in OSALT. You may include information about support and additional sponsors in the description.

Cost is shown at the left side of the event display. If cost does not apply to the event (e.g. it is a deadline for picking up plants from a plant sale), enter "NA" for Not Applicable." If the event is free, enter "Free". If there is a general cost, enter it. If there are multiple costs include details in the description and enter a range here and reference, e.g. "$15-50 See description for details"

City, County and State are separate fields. County is not currently used (but will be), but City and State are used as search fields, and required. Please use the standard postal service state abbreviations. For areas in Canada use two letter abbreviations. It is doubtful, although not impossible, that other locations will be posted.

Description is where you get to excite the viewer about your event. We suggest you start the description with the location of the event (the city, county and state entered above are used for searching, not for display). While there is a lot of room here, don't make it an essay. Feel free to refer to additional information at a web address. This is the place to include additional contact information (but see Contact Information below) and more complete information about particpant costs.

Contact Information is shown at the left of the event display. This should be the person/office to contact to register, or to ask for additional information. You may also include this information in the description, but be certain to include it here if there is a contact person/office.

Submitted By information will not be displayed, but we need it to contact you if we have questions. We do not keep this (or other information you have entered) after the event is deleted (shortly after the last day of the event), and will not knowingly provide it to anyone else. (We protect all information on our web site as best we can, but no one can guarantee that it will not be stolen. Our practice is to gather as little information as possible, and to delete it as soon as we have no more need for it.)

All fields are required unless otherwise noted.
