What Can I Do?

There are many ways to move toward a sustainable future. The best and most effective way is to get involved: talk to your friends and those you work with - let them know about sustainability and why it’s important. Check out our Links to other organizations and support the group(s) which seem most important to you

Lifestyle
Change the way you spend your money (be more intentional about your purchases - think about what you support when you buy what you buy.) Change the way you spend your time. (Spend is the right word - we all get 24 hours a day, how we spend them is called living.) Drive less, spend more time with friends doing things that don’t cost money, volunteer with an organization that re-knits community.

Supporting OSALT

If your interest is in supporting OSALT, here are some ideas:

Volunteer Your Time
We always have a need for volunteers. From hands-on work at an OSALT garden or farm, to staffing a table for OSALT at various events, volunteers are the heart of OSALT’s research and education efforts. Contact us with your interests and we’ll match you with an OSALT activity. We welcome any level of experience, commitment and availability.

Protecting Gardens, Farms, Ranches and Forests
You can support OSALT’s efforts to protect agricultural lands by donating land. You can let landowners interesed in protecting agricultural lands know about OSALT's programs. Lands can be donated during the life of the owners, or in their wills. Significant tax benefits are available to those donating land. Owners of land can donate the land to OSALT and keep the right to live on it for the rest of their lives.

Donate Money, Stocks or Bonds
You can donate money, stocks, or bonds directly to OSALT, or make OSALT a beneficiary of your life insurance or in your will.

Spread the Word
You can bring OSALT and our programs to the attention of granting organizations and others who may be interested, willing and able to offer support or to make such donations. You can let OSALT know about funding sources you know about.

You can let growers know about OSALT’s consulting services, or arrange to have a speaker address a gathering of people. You can even work with OSALT to set up a fundraiser for OSALT.

Advise Us
You can offer to serve on the Joint Board or the Advisory Board: The Joint Board is the policy making board for OSALT and guides research and education activities on OSALT lands. The Advisory Board members provide guidance to the Joint Board, keeping each OSALT activity relevant, realistic and beneficial to those served.

Subscribe
You can support OSALT by subscribing to OSALT’s quarterly journal SALT of the Earth. Subscriptions entitle the subscriber to the journal and to discounts on many OSALT educational conferences, seminars, workshops and classes.
