The Oregon Sustainable Agriculture Land Trust

Who We Are

The Oregon Sustainable Agriculture Land Trust (OSALT) is a 501(c)(3) land trust based in Portland, dedicated to preserving urban farms, pollinator gardens, and rural agricultural land for generations to come. Our mission centers on protecting the long-term viability of family farms and small-scale agriculture, while promoting stewardship of the land and community access to locally-grown food. OSALT achieves this by acquiring conservation easements or owning properties directly, ensuring that land remains dedicated to farming in perpetuity. Over the past fifteen (15) years, the organization has successfully continued to grow, while maintaining a portfolio that supports both conservation and active agriculture.

Individuals interested in supporting OSALT’s mission can get involved in several ways. Volunteers contribute through hands-on work on farms, assisting with maintenance, restoration, and community events, while other members help guide organizational strategy and outreach. Donors also play a crucial role, funding land acquisitions, stewardship programs, and educational initiatives. OSALT welcomes inquiries from those interested in volunteering or supporting its work, offering opportunities to engage with farmland preservation, learn about sustainable agriculture, and help ensure that Oregon’s agricultural heritage thrives for future generations.
